The staff are well presented in black and white attire and were very attentive, refilling our cups throughout the service. Served on a three-tiered silver stand, the afternoon tea service includes a delectable selection of assorted sandwiches, savouries and sweet treats, served with Dilmah Tea and Vittoria Coffee.
On the gluten free menu, the gluten free bread was soft and fresh and tasted as if it was normal bread.
The chicken and celery sandwich was the standout offering, I could have eaten a plate just of these sandwiches.
The other sandwich flavours included smoked ocean trout, triple decker; poached prawn, kohlrabi remoulade, brioche and buffalo mozzarella, kumato, vinocotto muffin.
Once the savouries were finished, we were presented with fresh plates. This was a welcome surprise as it is always pleasant to start afresh between savoury and sweet.
I quite liked the chicken and walnut one as it was creamy and nicely flavoured. The salmon and cream cheese sandwich was not bad either although nothing special, anyone could have guessed what this tasted like.
I was trying desperately to alternate the flavours by eating one savoury and one sweet. Most of the mini cakes were quite sweet.
I found the alfajor quite intriguing. When I took a bite, it revealed layers of honey and hazelnut biscuits somewhat like a wafer and as I love hazelnut flavoured things, I managed to somehow eat all of it.
Another one of my favourites — the peanut butter, caramel and chocolate ganache tart — was so rich but so well balanced with the sea salt and peanut butter that I almost wanted seconds.

We asked the Executive Pastry Chef Catherine Adams for the recipe, but where told that the recipe is in the vault and will not share it with anyone.
She took our orders for tea and regularly checked on us for re-fills throughout the afternoon. Where we sat, was in a lovely cozy position and we were able to admire the whole length of the venue, as we were only one of three tables in this area.
The Waiting Room is not a large venue and you will want to be seated inside rather than the area adjacent to the lobby. Within a short time our waitress was back to set the table with fine china tea cups and saucers, which was then quickly followed by the freshly brewed tea.
So we sat for a moment drinking our tea and admiring the venue and then we see the 3 tiered silver serving trays being brought out to the group of four at the table beside us.
It looked amazing and we listened intently as the waiter explained every piece from top to bottom. He even encouraged us to listen in and said he would test us all on what we remember later!
Now the trays looked fabulous and the table beside us politely asked us to take some photos for them, the waiter overheard and immediately offered to take them, so between the waiter and myself we took photos on each guests phones for a lasting memory.
Next our champagne was brought out and then it was our turn to have our high tea served. Once again our waitress explained what the items were on each level and then left us to enjoy this 3 tier tray of bliss!
The guests beside us offered to return the photo favour and took a few shots of us with the serving tray. The Grocer Cafe. Ihre Kartenakualisierung wurde angehalten. Marriot Das Melbourne Marriot Hotel ist bekannt Singleday sein unvergleichliches High Tea-Erlebnis.
